How to Update Firmware on a TP-Link or Huawei Router

Router firmware updates fix security holes and bugs. TP-Link and Huawei routers can usually update online in their app or web page with one click. For a manual update, download the file for your exact model and hardware version, and never interrupt the update.

Troubleshooting

“Firmware file is invalid”

The file is for a different model, region or hardware version. Match the label exactly.

Router won’t start after the update

Wait 10 minutes. Then try a factory reset. TP-Link routers often have a recovery (TFTP) procedure documented on their support site.
