How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Windows PC

Windows’ Snipping Tool can’t scroll, but your browser can capture a full page: Edge has Screenshot > Capture full page, Firefox has Save full page, and Chrome has a hidden full-size screenshot command. For other apps, the free ShareX tool captures scrolling windows.

Before you start

  • A Windows PC with Edge, Chrome or Firefox
  • ShareX (free) for non-browser apps

Method 1 Microsoft Edge

  1. Step 1: Open the page

Open the web page in Edge.

  2. Step 2: Open Screenshot

Press Ctrl + Shift + S, or right-click the page and choose Screenshot.

  3. Step 3: Capture full page

Click Capture full page. Edge scrolls the page and shows a preview.

  4. Step 4: Save

Click the Save icon to save it as an image, or draw on it first.

Method 2 Mozilla Firefox

  1. Step 1: Take Screenshot

Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot (or press Ctrl + Shift + S).

  2. Step 2: Save full page

Click Save full page at the top right, then Download.

Method 3 Google Chrome

Pages with sticky headers or lazy-loading images may look odd. Scroll to the bottom once before capturing so all images load.

  1. Step 1: Open DevTools

    Press F12 (or Ctrl + Shift + I).

  2. Step 2: Open the command menu

Press Ctrl + Shift + P and type full size.

  3. Step 3: Capture

Choose Capture full size screenshot. A PNG of the whole page downloads automatically.

Method 4 Any app: ShareX (free)

Works for long documents, chats and file lists, not only web pages. Results depend on how the app scrolls.

  1. Step 1: Install ShareX

Download ShareX from getsharex.com or the Microsoft Store.

  2. Step 2: Start a scrolling capture

In ShareX, choose Capture > Scrolling capture and click the window or area you want.

  3. Step 3: Capture

Click Start scrolling capture. ShareX scrolls and stitches the images, then lets you save the result.

Troubleshooting

Parts of the page are blank

Images load as you scroll. Scroll to the bottom and back up before capturing.

ShareX doesn’t scroll the window

Click inside the scrollable area first, or increase the scroll delay in the scrolling capture settings.

Frequently asked questions

Can Snipping Tool take scrolling screenshots?

Not natively. Use your browser’s full-page capture or ShareX.

Is there a size limit?

Very long pages may be cut off or produce huge images. Saving as PDF is better for extremely long content.

Summary

For web pages, use Edge’s Capture full page (Ctrl + Shift + S), Firefox’s Save full page, or Chrome DevTools’ Capture full size screenshot. For anything else, ShareX’s scrolling capture does the job.
