Before you start
- Zoom desktop app or Microsoft Teams
- Recording permission from the host or your organisation
Method 1 Record a Zoom meeting
If you’re not the host, the host must allow you to record (Participants > your name > Allow record).
-
Step 1: Start recording
In the meeting, click Record in the toolbar (or More > Record).
-
Step 2: Choose where
Pick Record on this computer (free plans, desktop app) or Record to the cloud (paid plans).
-
Step 3: Pause or stop
Use Pause or Stop in the toolbar.
-
Step 4: Find it
Local recordings convert to MP4 when the meeting ends and save to Documents/Zoom. Cloud recordings appear in the Zoom web portal under Recordings.
Method 2 Record a Microsoft Teams meeting
Recording depends on your organisation’s Teams policy and licence. If the option is missing, ask your IT admin.
-
Step 1: Open more actions
In the meeting, click More actions (⋯).
-
Step 2: Start recording
Choose Record and transcribe > Start recording. Everyone sees a notification.
-
Step 3: Stop
Click More actions > Record and transcribe > Stop recording.
-
Step 4: Find it
The recording appears in the meeting chat. It’s stored in the organiser’s OneDrive (or SharePoint for channel meetings).
Troubleshooting
Zoom recording didn’t convert
Open the Zoom app > Meetings > Recorded and click Convert, or look for a .zoom file in the recording folder and open it with Zoom.
Teams says recording is disabled
Your organisation’s policy blocks it, or you’re a guest. Ask the organiser or IT.
