Before you start

  • The Google account email and password used on the lost phone
  • A computer, tablet or another phone
  • Find Hub turned on before the phone was lost (it is on by default)

Find My Device is now Find Hub

In 2025 Google renamed Find My Device to Find Hub. It works the same way and is still at google.com/android/find. If you search for “Find My Device”, you’ll land on the same page.

It can find your phone if it is switched on, signed in to your Google account and has location turned on. Newer phones can even be found while offline, using other nearby Android devices.

Method 1 Locate your phone from a browser

  1. Step 1: Open Find Hub

On any computer, tablet or phone, go to google.com/android/find.

  2. Step 2: Sign in

Sign in with the same Google account that’s on the lost phone. If you’re using a friend’s phone, use a private/incognito tab and sign out afterwards.

  3. Step 3: Select the phone

Choose the lost phone from the list on the left. Find Hub shows its location on the map, the time it was last seen and its battery level.

  4. Step 4: Get directions

Zoom in on the map. If the location circle is large, the position is approximate; walking closer and using Play sound helps narrow it down.

Method 2 Ring, lock or erase the phone

  1. Step 1: Play sound

Click Play sound. The phone rings at full volume for 5 minutes, even if it’s on silent. Ideal when it’s somewhere in the house or car.

  2. Step 2: Mark as lost

Click Mark as lost (previously Secure device). This locks the phone, signs you out of Google on it, and lets you show a message and a contact number on the lock screen, so an honest finder can call you.

  3. Step 3: Factory reset as a last resort

If you believe the phone is stolen and won’t come back, choose Factory reset device. This deletes everything on it. After a reset, you can no longer locate it.

Method 3 Use the Find Hub app on another Android phone

  1. Step 1: Install or open Find Hub

On a friend’s or family member’s Android phone, open the Find Hub app (install it from the Play Store if needed).

  2. Step 2: Sign in as a guest

Tap their profile picture and choose Sign in as guest (or Help a friend), then sign in with your Google account.

  3. Step 3: Find your phone

Select your device and use Play sound, Mark as lost or Factory reset just like in the browser. Sign out when you’re done.

Set it up now so you can find your phone later

Check these settings on your phone today:

  • Settings > Google > All services > Find Hub (or Find My Device): make sure it’s on.
  • Settings > Location: on.
  • Find your offline devices: choose “With network in all areas” or “In high-traffic areas” so supported phones can be found even without internet.
  • Write down your phone’s IMEI (dial *#06#) and keep it somewhere safe.

Samsung users can also use SmartThings Find at smartthingsfind.samsung.com with their Samsung account.

Troubleshooting

Find Hub says my device can’t be reached or shows no location

The phone may be switched off, out of battery, or offline. Find Hub shows the last known location if available. Keep the page open or turn on notifications: you’ll be alerted when it next connects.

My phone isn’t in the list

You may be signed in with a different Google account. Try each account you use. If Find Hub was turned off on the phone, it can’t be located this way.

The location is in the wrong place

Locations based on Wi-Fi or mobile towers can be off by a few hundred metres. Use Play sound when you’re nearby, and refresh the page for an updated fix.

Frequently asked questions

Can I track my phone if it’s switched off?

Usually you’ll only see its last known location. Some recent Pixel phones can still be found for a few hours after switching off through the Find Hub network.

Can I track a phone using only the phone number?

No. Find Hub works through your Google account, not the phone number. Police and carriers can use the IMEI and SIM, which is why you should report a theft.

Does the thief know I’m tracking the phone?

When you use Play sound or Mark as lost, a notification or lock message appears on the phone. Simply viewing the location may show a brief notification on some versions.

Can I track an iPhone with Find Hub?

No. For an iPhone, use Find My at icloud.com/find with your Apple Account.

Summary

Go to google.com/android/find, sign in with the Google account on the lost phone, and you can see it on a map, ring it, lock it or erase it. Turn on Find Hub and note your IMEI today so you’re ready if it ever goes missing.
