Before you start
- Access to an email or phone number that is or was on the account, if possible
Method 1 Use Facebook’s hacked-account tool
-
Step 1: Open facebook.com/hacked
On a computer or phone, go to facebook.com/hacked.
-
Step 2: Choose what happened
Select the option that fits, for example Someone else got into my account without my permission.
-
Step 3: Follow the steps
Facebook asks you to log in or find your account, then guides you through securing it.
Method 2 If the hacker changed your email or password
-
Step 1: Find the security email
Search your inbox for an email from [email protected] about a changed email or password.
-
Step 2: Click the secure link
Click Secure your account or This wasn’t me. It lets you reverse the change and reset your password.
Method 3 If you can’t log in at all
-
Step 1: Find your account
On the login page, tap Forgot password? and search by email, phone or name.
-
Step 2: Choose a recovery method
Pick a code by email or SMS to a contact that’s still yours. If none work, tap No longer have access to these? or Try another way.
-
Step 3: Confirm your identity
Facebook may ask you to upload ID, record a video selfie, or confirm friends. Use real information; the review can take a few days.
Method 4 Secure the account once you’re back
-
Step 1: Change your password
Choose a new strong password you don’t use anywhere else.
-
Step 2: Turn on two-factor authentication
Accounts Center > Password and security > Two-factor authentication. Use an authenticator app or a security key.
-
Step 3: Remove unknown sessions
Password and security > Where you’re logged in: log out of devices you don’t recognise.
-
Step 4: Check your details
Remove unknown emails, phone numbers, apps, ad accounts or Page admins the hacker added.
Troubleshooting
Facebook says my account is disabled
That’s a policy action, not just a hack. Follow the appeal link shown when you try to log in.
I don’t receive codes
Check spam, confirm the number/email is correct, and wait between attempts; too many requests can block codes temporarily.
Frequently asked questions
How long does Facebook recovery take?

Can I call Facebook for help?

Summary
Start at facebook.com/hacked, use the security email link if your email was changed, or recover with your phone, email or ID. Then change your password, turn on two-factor authentication and remove unknown sessions.
