Method 1 Pin a chat on Android

Step 1: Select the chat
In the Chats tab, press and hold the conversation.

Step 2: Tap the pin icon
Tap the pin icon at the top of the screen. The chat moves to the top with a small pin next to it.
Method 2 Pin a chat on iPhone

Step 1: Swipe right
In Chats, swipe right on the conversation.

Step 2: Tap Pin
Tap Pin. Or press and hold the chat and choose Pin from the menu.
Method 3 Pin a chat on WhatsApp Web or desktop

Step 1: Open the chat menu
Hover over the chat in the list and click the down arrow, or right-click the chat.

Step 2: Click Pin chat
Choose Pin chat.
Method 4 Pin a message inside a chat
Up to three messages can be pinned per chat. In groups, admins can limit who can pin messages.

Step 1: Select the message
Press and hold the message (on desktop, hover and click the arrow).

Step 2: Choose Pin
Tap Pin (on Android you may need to tap ⋮ first).

Step 3: Choose how long
Pick 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. The message shows in a banner at the top of the chat for everyone.
Troubleshooting
“You can only pin up to 3 chats”
Unpin one of your current pinned chats first, then pin the new one.
The pin icon is missing
Update WhatsApp. Archived chats can’t be pinned; unarchive the chat first.
Frequently asked questions
Does the other person know I pinned our chat?
No. Pinning a chat is private. Pinning a message inside a chat is visible to everyone in it.
Do pinned chats sync across devices?
Pinned chats are set per device, so you may need to pin them again on WhatsApp Web or desktop.
How do I unpin?
Repeat the same steps and tap Unpin.
