Before you start
- A payment method from the new country (or None in some regions)
- No active subscriptions or pre-orders
- Your Apple Account balance spent
Method 1 Before you change
-
Step 1: Cancel subscriptions
Go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions and cancel active ones (Apple Music, iCloud+ excluded in some cases, apps). You must wait until the subscription period ends.
-
Step 2: Spend your balance
Use up any Apple Account (gift card) balance. Balances can’t move between countries. If it’s less than the price of an item, contact Apple Support.
-
Step 3: Leave or check Family Sharing
Family members must share the same country. You may need to leave the Family Sharing group first.
-
Step 4: Download your purchases
Download apps, music, films and books you want to keep; some may not be available in the new country’s store.
Method 2 Change the country on iPhone or iPad
-
Step 1: Open Media & Purchases
Go to Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases > View Account. Sign in if asked.
-
Step 2: Tap Country/Region
Tap Country/Region > Change Country or Region.
-
Step 3: Choose and agree
Select the new country, review the terms and tap Agree twice.
-
Step 4: Add payment and address
Enter a payment method and billing address from the new country, then tap Next.
Method 3 Change it on a computer
-
Step 1: Mac
Open the App Store, click your name > Account Settings and click Change Country or Region.
-
Step 2: Web
Sign in at account.apple.com, go to Personal Information > Country/Region and follow the steps.
Troubleshooting
“You can’t change your country or region”
Something is still active: a subscription in its billing period, a pre-order, a film rental, a pending refund, or a store balance. Wait until they end, or contact Apple Support.
I don’t have a payment method from the new country
In many countries you can choose None. Otherwise, add a local card or use a gift card bought in that country.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose my apps if I change country?
Installed apps stay, but you may not be able to update or re-download ones unavailable in the new store.
Does changing country affect iCloud?
Your iCloud data stays. iCloud+ pricing switches to the new country’s pricing.
How often can I change my Apple Account country?
Apple doesn’t set a fixed limit, but each change requires the steps above.
