image

Jam tarts are a tasty snack that can be made sweet or savory, depending on your preferred flavoring. These are the basic instructions.

Things You'll Need

  • 300g flour
  • 50g of lard
  • 50g of butter/margarine
  • a pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • jam or other filling
  • muffin tray
  • sieve
  • round-bladed knife
  • jug
  • scales
  • mixing bowl

Steps

  1. Measure all of your ingredients and prepare your equipment.
  2. Sieve the flour into the mixing bowl.
  3. Chop up the lard and butter into small pieces and add to the flour.
  4. Add a pinch of salt.
  5. With your hands, rub in the mixture, adding a bit of water at a time until it goes a light brown color.
  6. Roll it out. Well done, you have just made shortcrust pastry.
  7. Using a cutter, cut the pastry into shapes.
  8. Put the pastry shapes in the bun tray so they look like cups.
  9. Add the jam or whatever else.
  10. Cook for 12-15 minutes.
  11. Take it out. Voila, you are done!

Tips

  • Try making quiche-just mix some egg and cheese and add to the pastry.
  • Try adding toppings, such as Smarties.
  • Experiment with fillings like chocolate spread or lemon curd.
  • Try dyeing the pastry an unusual color.

Warnings

  • Don't forget to wash your hands and use oven gloves!
