Hardtack is basically bread that is hard because is doesn't have yeast. Back in the day, it was a popular meal for soldiers and sailors because it didn't grow mold and was easy to prepare.
Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbs salt
Steps
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
- Knead dough and roll out till its 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut dough into 3x3 squares. Poke a 3x3 series of holes in the center, evenly spaced.
- Bake in preheated oven
- Take out when its a light golden brown.
Tips
- You can make it sweeter by adding sugar and cinamon.

- If you expect this to taste as good as cake, you're in for a surprise.
